About Merritt
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with over 25 years of experience as a practicing therapist in New York City. I specialize working with the following: mood and/or anxiety disorders; sleep disturbances; sexual abuse/assault and interpersonal violence; PTSD; self-harm; dissociation; interpersonal (family, intimate partner, parenting) issues and work or school concerns. I am particularly passionate about working with survivors of trauma~ specifically, sexual and gender based violence.
Prior to private practice, I spent twelve years as a therapist and clinical supervisor at the Victim Services Program at Mount Sinai Beth Israel. I co-facilitated the Volunteer Advocate Training Program, an annual, 40 hour training which is certified by the New York State Department of Health. I collaborated with various agencies and organizations including: the New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault; the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office; the Special Victims Unit of the NYPD; the Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner Program; Heal Trafficking; Title IX/Enough Is Enough. I'm member of the following: the Downstate Coalition for Crime Victims; the Manhattan Sexual Assault Task Force; the Human Trafficking Working Group at Mount Sinai Medical Center; the Rape Crisis Direct Service Collaborative Committee; the National Association of Social Work (NASW); the NY State Society for Clinical Social Work (NYSSCSW), Manhattan Chapter. I received my certificate in Advanced Family Therapy from the Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services.
I completed my undergraduate degree (BA) at Tulane University and Hunter College and received my Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from the Hunter College School of Social Work in 1997. She has held her Clinical Social Work License from the state of NY since 2005.
